Frequently Asked Questions*

Below you will find the most frequently asked questions (FAQ) regarding what My5tery Music™ is and what My5tery Music™ does:

1.) What is My5tery Music?

2.) “Who is in charge of the Teams/Who will be teaching my child(ren)?

Your facilitator for the program will be the Executive Director, Mr. Errick Dixon, better known as “Mr. E,” or one of our other FBI background check-verified facilitators.

3.) “Is this a seasonal thing or is it a constant, all-year-round team?

The program is for either one Term (Fall or Winter) or the entire fiscal school year (Two Terms, from September up until the end of May).

4.) “What kind of performances will my child be doing? I know the paperwork mentioned recordings for social media, etc., but will there be any in-person performances? And will they cost anything to attend?

There may be warmup performances some time during the two Terms, but they’re all leading up to the big end-of-year flagship performance: The SUMMER COOLER™.

And that flagship event’s current ticket cost is between $15.00 – $20.00 for discounted ‘Early Bird’ tickets before the event, and starting at $25.00 at the door.

5.) “What is the date of the flagship SUMMER COOLER event?

The date(s) of our flagship SUMMER COOLER™ event(s) are normally during the last weekend in May. There are no general dates because the dates change yearly.

6.) “Will there be any travel involved? If so, am I responsible for the finances of said travel?

There may be travel involved leading up to the flagship SUMMER COOLER™ event, but, no, you will not be financially responsible for said travel.

7.) “What are my financial obligations with my child(ren) being involved in My5tery Music?

The cost for participation in the school-oriented standard program (SOSP) is a one-time $50.00 (non-refundable) total fee for that entire fiscal year, which includes the $10.00 registration fee, the $20.00 program t-shirt fee, and the $20.00 performance t-shirt fee, if they make the team.

The cost for participation in the company-oriented standard program (COSP) is $25.00 (non-refundable) per month, as long as they are part of the program.

8.) “When is the $50.00 in fees due?

The $10.00 registration fee needs to accompany the Orientation Packet when returned, and you will be informed during the fiscal year when half or all of the remaining $40.00 is due.

9.) “As long as I sign the permission slips and all of the other necessary documents for my child(ren), and pay their non-refundable program fees, making the Team is guaranteed, correct?

No, that is incorrect. No student’s spot is initially guaranteed except current My5tery Music™ members from previous years and schools.

See, making the team is about being one of the 15+ students selected for the team for the fiscal year and making it to the flagship event without demeriting out (normally five demerits = dismissal from program).

Our program has the data and rating it has due to our repeatedly tested and highly-effective disciplinary methods…

…which translate fantastically into developing better humans, which make better students, and thereby improves classroom management tremendously for teachers.

So, students earning their place in My5tery Music™ has been (and still is) highly coveted.

And as far as the permissions slips go, they are for legal reasons, since 99%+ of the students throughout our history have been minors.

That means, of course, that we have to get permission from their parent(s)/guardian(s) for them to participate in our program. A simple and standard legal protection procedure.

10.) “When you say ‘making the team,’ does that mean just the team that gets to perform in the flagship event?

Yes. However, it’s not just the flagship event. Making the Team means that they get to perform in our flagship and any other event(s) we have for that particular Team.

11.) “Will my child(ren) still get to participate in the whole year if they don’t make the team?

If they do not make the Team, they will not be participating in the program for that fiscal year. However, if they do make the Team, but demerit out, they will not get to participate anymore in the program for that fiscal year, including the flagship (and other) events.

12.) “When is it decided who is on the team or not?

It is usually within the first three weeks of the program’s first rehearsal Session (not Orientation), but can be longer, depending on the number of program applicants and number of applicant slots available.

13.) “Is there one team for each musical my5tery per school that participates in your program, or is there one big team comprised of students from every school for each musical my5tery™?

For the SOSP, there are individualized teams at each of the schools with which we partner, not one big team.

Now, they may come together at the end of the season to perform one of our universal performance pieces together, but the teams are individualized (based on the partnering schools) and primarily perform separately. However…

…for our COSP, the individual teams are comprised of the best My5tery Music™ student performers from all over the city from our different partnering schools for each musical my5tery™.

Think of the COSP as ‘individual All-Star Teams,’ and each My5tery Music™ participant city-wide has the chance to earn their way onto those different teams and perform in many places across the nation.
